Photographs - Hong Kong 2000

Hong Kong public transport is brilliant, they sell a tour card which allows passengers to get on and off the tour buses all day at their pleasure. The first thing I noticed when we travelled away from the centre was the harsh living conditions of the local workers, over here in Blighty I have always considered Hong Kong as a haven of wealth, how very wrong I was. In under two hours my mind had completely rewritten its views on this haven.

The fact it seemed to rain all the time we were in Hong Kong probably did not help my feelings, but I left Hong Kong feeling sad and almost cheated.

One of the fascinating aspects of the old buildings in Hong Kong is the way in which they are added to throughout their life. Two or three extra floors are often built onto the roof of an old building, giving a shanty town look to the suburbs.
