Top Cat on the sand at Mochras Lagoon

Boat is running again
about us

We have finally refitted the port engine and it does appear to be running well. Having lost a large proportion of the season we are now behind on that list of jobs boat owners have in the first couple of weeks after the winter break.

We took the boat over to Mochras Lagoon, otherwise known as Shell Island. It is only a short hop from Porthmadog, but I wanted to ensure everything was working and functioning after such a long break. We lost all our instruments half way across, the port bilge pump packed up, the VHF radio was playing up.

So last weekend we put these things right and now we are set to go, just in time for the end of the season, oh well, it could be worse, we could be losing red diesel, oh, we are.

where are we?
Still at home, things are going slowly, too slowly.

The house is not ready to sell or rent, depending how we choose to leave it, I am starting to worry about renting as it will mean storing all our stuff. I am no hoarder, I am amazed at how much clutter we have.

There is also the stuff that we do not want to sell, how are we going to store it, where will we store it. Can I lock it all in the loft and still rent the house.

Then there is my medication, it will have to come from the UK, will I have to fly or train back every three months to collect it and take it back, or pay a family member to come out and stay with us for a week, now there is an idea. I wish the EU would hurry up, then this would not be a problem, would it?

My condition has stabilised, ankylosing spondylitis in case you are interested, I have the worst case my consultant has seen for a man of my age, this seemed by him to be reassuring, personally I would rather have the mildest case and still be in work.

My condition is the reason we are going to sail away and also the reason we have not left yet. Things are taking ages, the bathroom needs finishing, but I can only do a couple of hours a day at most. I feel a mixture of lazy and useless, I have not come to terms with this disease at all. I fear the day I do, I might as well pack up.

Every weekend I make a point that next week I will target E-bay and start shifting stuff, I have a back room full of packing boxes ready, it just needs me to get the camera out and photograph stuff. I am rubbish at selling things, I talk people out of buying something or feel guilty that I am over charging them. I suppose E-bay gives me a distance so I shouldn't crumble when face to face.

Julian.

latest changes.

I have been updating the whole website, I had grown tired of my last design. So far I am really pleased with my 'new look'. You can still find remnants of the old design in some of the boat sections and the Hong Kong and New Zealand photographs.

Do you like my efforts, I always appreciate criticism or indeed praise.

This was taken around midday five days into our mid-summer cruise. Note the grey dark feel, it never really improved. This was taken between torrential rain downpours.

what have we been up to lately?

not a lot

We spent a couple of nights at Shell Island, nice but a little too quiet.

Harlech Castle, taken 2 days before the end of our holiday, this was the first time the sun had stayed out for more than an hour.

Porthmadog Harbour

This is a short film clip I have put together of Porthmadog Harbour in North Wales. The film is taken over about 3 days over 3 months before anyone starts worrying about continuity.
